Hi! I’m Allyson Chan. I’m excited to be running for the San Mateo-Foster City School District Board of Trustees, representing Area 1, to give back to the community that shaped my educational journey.

A proud graduate of the San Mateo-Foster City School District, I experienced firsthand the impact strong schools can have on students’ lives. As a high school student, I served on the San Mateo County Board of Education, where I advocated for legislation to strengthen student voice across California (AB 824).

I earned an associate’s degree in political science from Cañada College and a bachelor’s degree in political science and psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Since then, I have continued serving the community as a County Legislative Aide and as a member of the Executive Board for the San Mateo Democratic Party. Nationally, as Programming Director for the National Student Board Member Association, I work with student leaders and learns from school boards across the country about best practices to support student success.

I have lived experience as a former student, deep local knowledge, and a national perspective on education policy, and I’m ready to bring that experience to the school board, so every student in the district has the opportunity to thrive.
